A letter is created in DEPLAW’s text editor – a rich-text editor with a control panel alongside it that offers three paths to a finished document: write it freely from scratch, insert a text block, or have the built-in LegalAi draft it. From there, you send the result directly – by email or post – or simply save it to the case file.
Getting started: create a new document
You start the editor from within the case file – most often via a participant, so the address and salutation are already right:
Create new document opens the editor already addressed to this participant – their placeholders (salutation, address, case reference) are available right away.
The editor
Right panel: General
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Letterhead | which letterhead is used for printing/sending. |
| Address | the recipient address – pre-filled from the participant, adjustable here. |
| Subject | the subject line of the letter. |
| Document date | the date shown on the letter. |
| Tags | tagging for the document, e.g. for later search or document classification. |
| Permissions | who may see the document – attorney, client (client portal), and/or workshop/expert. |
| Attach files | add existing documents from the case file as attachments. |
| Document information | the created/edited history of the document. |
Right panel: Text Blocks
In the Text Blocks tab, you search your stock of text blocks and insert one directly:
Select inserts the block at the cursor position and resolves its placeholders in the context of the case file; Preview shows it beforehand, Edit jumps to the text block editor.
LegalAi: the AI assistant in the case’s context
The LegalAi button opens a chat assistant directly in the editor – used like a typical AI chat, but with one crucial difference: LegalAi knows the case file you’re currently writing for.
You can, for example, ask LegalAi to draft a paragraph, tighten up what’s already written, or add a passage from a particular perspective – the response takes into account the participant, the practice area, and the rest of the case file’s information, rather than a generic, context-free chat.
Save, preview & send
At the top of the editor, you decide what happens with the finished letter:
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Save | saves the document to the case file without sending it. |
| Preview | shows the letter with letterhead, as it would be printed or sent. |
| By email | sends it immediately via the configured email sending route. |
| By post | hands it to postal dispatch for printing and mailing. |
Automation: generating and sending documents via workflow
Everything you do here by hand – generating a letter from a text block, addressing it to a participant, sending it by email, post, or fax, or outputting it as a DOCX – can also be run automatically in a workflow. This is especially valuable for form letters and standard correspondence that should be generated without a manual editor session.
